Very well built and thought-out.• The diamond rod has a short groove, for sharpening tips, like fishing hooks and sewing needles.• The flat diamond file is held shut with a magnet.• The magnet can hold the item’s weight, but not on smooth surfaces.• The finger grooves are textured, for more traction.• The bottom part has rubber inlays, to improve stability when using the V sharpeners.Below I compare it to Smith’s Pocket Pal sharpener.• It is larger, so it does take up more space and weight, but is also easier to hold and operate.• Includes double-sided flat diamond sharpener.• Added features to improve performance (rubber inlays and textured finger grooves).Thoughts:I immediately liked it. I do not mind it being bulkier than the Pocket Pal, since its added features make up for it. It is very well executed and works. Thanks to the flat diamond part, you have more options when sharpening. Note that this is will not replace a “proper” method of sharpening, like a sharpening wheel, nor will it be as effective. Still, you can’t take a wheel with you. That’s where this comes in. It’s small enough to go in a toolbox or pouch, so you can maintain your blades on the go. It won’t perform miracles, but it works.About the magnet:It holds the flat diamond file very well. It is also just strong enough to hold the item’s weight, but the sides are smooth plastic, so if, for example, you stick it on a fridge door, it will slide down. However, you can stick a small piece of traction tape or rubber on the side. The traction will eliminate slippage, and the item will stay put. I don’t see storing it on my fridge, but it would be another welcome feature. They already have the magnet there. And they have rubber inlays on the bottom of it. Another little piece of rubber on the side of the magnet, and there. You’ve got another awesome feature. In any case, it is an easy fix, if you do want to be able to stick it on vertical ferrous surfaces.Photos:Comparing it with the Pocket Pal and an AA battery.
