Piper's Ultimate Reed Poker The reed poker can be used to open a pipe chanter reed very, very slightly to restore clarity and tone, after the break-in period. The tool goes through the staple of the reed, then you gently continue another 1-2 mm, opening the staple just a bit. According to the directions, the poker can be helpful when a reed becomes too easy, chirps, or sounds thin. Naturally, great care should be taken when modifying a reed, and damage or undesired results can occur with any type of manipulation. The poker is precise and intuitive to use.
